Population Tokens

Population is central to this game! You'll want the population of your species to thrive because each token, regardless of color, is worth 1 point at the end of the game.

Species Boards

These boards represent your species. Each one has 10 spaces for population tokens, but the species will overpopulate if a population token must be placed on the space with the fishbones. Overpopulation leads to disease, which means a huge decrease of that species' population.

A species feeds on the population of another species by using the attack icons on their traits: …

in the presence of one of the mighty Dragons, they'll grant you a token of their appreciation. These rewards may be cards, golden dragon scales, or crystals: cards will help you make further building contributions, while golden scales can be traded for more crystals. …

Tortuga, a small island off of Haiti, was an important pirate settlement and hideout during the golden age of piracy.

British, French, and Dutch pirates lived together on the island in a loose alliance and formed a pirate government known as "The Brethren of the Coast". Rich from its support of piracy and protected by the Brethren, Tortuga was full of taverns, gambling houses, and prostitutes.

The French and British governments, in an attempt to weaken the mighty Spanish, would often legalize piracy by giving pirates letters of marque. These gave pirates permission to unofficially plunder Spanish ships and towns. …

The 1920's... Small City was founded just a few years ago and is still just a fledgling town at this stage.

Nonetheless, the Town Center is prosperous and the managers of the strange CliniC have been duly incarcerated for years... but Small City cannot be built from buildings alone: We need infrastructure, a transportation network to cart people where they need to go, and at high speed!

The few citizens of Small City start the game in different portions of the city (residential neighborhoods, factories, shops, and entertainment venues), and want to get around without having to wear out the soles of their shoes. …

Recommendation : play this variant only when you have enough experience with the game as described above . That is and remains the standard game.

However, this variant was in the running until the final rules of LYNGK had to be locked in. Games played this way are often shorter because of an added special twist.

The twist is a sudden-death feature: a player who completes a stack of 6 pieces wins the game at once. Without experience, the sudden-death may result too often in a coincidental win, i.e. a sudden opportunity to win without having played for it. …
