    The Investment step is the first step of a turn. This way, a player has plenty of time in the previous player's turn to think about investing and what to buy.

    (In Merkator, you can theoretically plan your whole turn while the player to your right takes his/her turn).

Setup

Place the game board in the middle of the table.

  • Choose a color (blue, red, yellow or green) and take the corresponding 3 master builders as well as the matching workers (7 small workers and 1 large worker). Each small figure represents a single worker. The large worker figure counts as 5 workers. Place your pieces in front of you as a reserve. Put all players' master builders in the storage bag and place the bag next to the game board. …



The King's Favor

This version for three or four players (which we highly recommend) adds a fifth phase after the counting phase. Each player must have three more '2' brokers. These are placed next to the board at the beginning of the game.

Phase 5 - The King's Favor

Right after the counting phase, players get the three brokers placed in front of their screen back. Each player places one of them face down in the throne room (12).

You will not be able to use this broker (sent to flatter the King) until the end of the game. The two remaining brokers are put back behind the screen. Finally, each player takes one of their '2' brokers standing next to the board and puts it behind their screen. …

Object of the Game

Be the last player to have at least one die in play.

A game is played in rounds. Each round, players roll their dice, an opening bid is made, play continues as the bid is raised until it is challenged and the challenge is resolved.

Players lose dice for incorrect challenges. Once a player has lost all of their dice they are out of the game!

Each player is a zoo owner. Players score points by attracting as many visitors to their zoos as possible. To accomplish this, they must collect matching sets of animals.

If a player manages to obtain many animals for his zoo, he will find it worthwhile to expand his zoo. Once all the enclosures are occupied, newly acquired animals must go into the barn. Vending stalls next to an enclosure guarantee a minimum number of visitors.

At the end of the game, a player loses points for animals they have left in the barn. The player with the most points wins the game. …
