In each case, play the game as usual, but with the changes described for each variant.

Teams

Divide up into two teams. The members of Team 1 and Team 2 always alternate turns. If the two teams have different numbers of players, make sure that each player on a team always gets the same number of turns as the other team members.

Each team chooses one score marker for the entire team, which is always advanced when any team member scores points. If it is your turn, select any shape from your team's shape supply and drop it into the drop zone. Then check for broken landing rules and assess any points earned. …

« Was the can opener invented before or after the light bulb? Well, after glasses for sure... right? And was it created at some point between the telegraph and the telephone?»

In Timeline, these are exactly the kind of questions you'll ask yourself each time you try to play one of your cards. There's only one objective here: be the first player to play all of your cards correctly.

Components

109 cards, each with the name of an invention and its image on one side, and the same information plus that invention's creation or discovery date on the other side. …

Extra Discards

Before the cards are divided between the players, discard the top 15 to 20.

That way, a player who knows the deck cannot assume his opponent has all the cards that he himself does not!

Common Deck

Place all the cards in the middle of the table in one deck, face down. Both players draw their hand of five cards, and all replacements, from this deck. (This is how the original French Tempete sur l'Echiquier worked).

In this version, any time you do not play a card on your opponent's turn, you may discard and draw a replacement. You may still discard on your own turn as well. …

Five of each player's orders are simple orders showing just the ingredients availa- ble in the game. To be properly baked, the ingredients shown must be face-up in the oven when the order is turned up.

As always, the player, whose order it is, may add ingredients from his hand to complete the order. Each player also has three special pizzas, which are completed in the same way: from the face up oven cards and/or from the player's hand. These orders are described below: …

The ice is breaking up! Grab all the fish you can before they slip away. If you don't, another penguin will. It's every penguin family for itself.

Your penguins must race across the rapidly dwindling ice floe to collect the juiciest fish and block off their rivals. But your penguins better stay alert! If a penguin gets stuck on an ice floe, he's done.

Seemingly simple, your goal will be thwarted by devious penguins and an ever-shrinking game board. What strategy will you construct to bypass the competition? …
