Description:

A traditional parlor game for large or small groups, charades was once so popular as an after-dinner activity that it was known simply as "The Game". Its recorded history dates back to 16th century France, and the name has become a catchphrase for many different pantomime games.

Many boxed versions with suggestions and timers are available, and several TV shows have been made using the basic idea of the game.

In most versions, one player silently acts out a title (book, movie, show, etc)., phrase or person and their team must guess it. The words can be from a commercially made list or just creatively made up by the players.

Many signals and conventions have become traditional (see link below). The experience is usually humorous, whether you are strenuously flapping away like a buzzard - alternating with pretending to push a buzzer and lying dead on the floor - for several minutes while your team guesses everything but buzzard ("bird!" "scavenger!" "bird of prey!!" "raptor?") or frantically struggling to think up clever clues.

Many of the clues use the "sounds like" hint - pretending to sew for the word "so", for example.

The excitement and frustration of piecing together the clues and guessing is also a great part of the fun, of course, and the relief is immense for both the actor and the guessing team when the guess is finally (or miraculously suddenly) correct. The game usually produces much laughter in the group playing it - solving the riddles is only part of the experience.

Object of the Game

Decide on a number of rounds or a point target to win. One word guessed correctly = 1 point.

Game Play

Each team has one minute to guess as many words as possible. If the acting team doesn't like a word, they can pass - but only one pass per round. â€¦

Place the deck, face down, on a table.

Game Play

The youngest person will start the game; the player to their left will tell them when time is up.

Object of the Game

Be the first team (or player, in the case of three players) to earn 10 points.

Setup

Assemble the squeaky chicken by screwing the head onto the body (turn it clockwise, see fig. 1).

Place the squeaky chicken, die and sand timer in the center of the playing area.

Object of the Game

In this game, players attempt to perform and guess a whole host of fun charades. The first player or team to cross off its row of dice on the score pad wins the game.

Setup

This game requires three or more players or teams. There can be a maximum of seven players or teams. We recommend playing in teams whenever possible.

Write the player names/team names in the left-hand column on the score pad. The score pad has rows of dice numbered from 1 to 6 to the right of each player's name. Dice are crossed off as each charade is successfully acted and guessed. â€¦

Game Play

Picture Charades is designed for children who are still too young to read.

It is all about being imaginative and having fun. For this reason, we do not recommend playing Picture Charades with a sand-timer, nor do we recommend playing for points. Everyone should play together on the SAME team.

The oldest player is the first actor. The role of actor must rotate between all players - every player must be an actor before the first player can take on this role again. â€¦
