Balduin is excited! Today, he's finally about to go on a date with Brunhild, the lady ghost from the bath- room. What to wear? Which scent to use? He is looking dapper in his hat, has his vial of perfume ready, and has even remembered his key. Alas, Owlina and Batrick, those two late-night mischief makers, are causing a terrible mess.

Despite the rush boiling blood is to be avoided at all costs! Maybe the flashlight will help you see more clearly. And a quick look at the clock let's you know: "It's 5 to 12 already!"

There are nine items to choose from. Who will be the first to grab the correct one? Items appear in the mirror, colors and the time of the day are being shouted. Who will keep their cool?

Components

  • 9 Items
  • 63 Playing Cards

Setup

Place the nine items in a circle on the table. Shuffle the cards well and set them aside as a face down draw pile.

Game Play

Grab the Item!

The player who was the last to look into a mirror takes a card from the draw pile and turns it over. Make sure to turn the card over in such a way that all players can see it at the same time. Now, using just one hand, you all try to grab the item depicted in its original color. Be as fast as you can! For example, you have to grab the blue flashlight (see fig. 1).

What to do though, if there is no item in its original color? In that case, you grab the one item that is not depicted itself and whose original color is not used on the card either (see fig. 2).

Example: Since the GHOST is not depicted and its original color (white) is not used on the card either, you have to grab the GHOST.

5 To 12

If the GHOST and the CLOCK are both depicted on the same card, do not grab anything but instead shout the time displayed by the CLOCK (see fig. 3).

Example: Since the GHOST and the CLOCK are both depicted on this card, you have to shout the displayed time: "5 to 12!"

If you have grabbed the correct item or shouted the time correctly, you may lay the card face down in front of you as a reward. Return all grabbed items to the circle on the table. Then, the next player takes a card from the draw pile and turns it over (so that all players can see it at the same time). Continue to play in this fashion.

Spirited additional rules for advanced players

You can use any of the following additional rules, in any combination, in addition to the basic rules.

Additional Rule 1: Mirrored Items

If you can see an item in the MIRROR, grab this item (see fig. 4). In this case, its color is irrelevant.

Example: Since the hat can be seen in the mirror, you have to grab the hat.

Additional Rule 2: Owlina, the Talking Owl

If the OWL is depicted on the card, do not grab anything but instead shout the correct item (see figs. 5 and 6).

Additional Rule 3: Mirror and Owl - A Colorful Pair

If the MIRROR and the OWL are both depicted on the same card, do not grab anything but instead shout the color of the item you can see in the MIRROR (see figs. 7 and 8).

Please, Note!

Every time you turn over a card, each of you has only one attempt.

If you make a mistake and ...

  • shout when you should have grabbed an item or

  • grab an item when you should have shouted or

  • grab an incorrect item or

  • shout incorrectly or

  • grab an item and shout at the same time

... hand one of your reward cards (if you have any) to the player who grabbed the correct item or shouted correctly.

If you have all made mistakes, nobody gets a card. Instead, you set aside the one card you drew this round as well as one reward card per player as a jackpot. The next player to receive a reward card also takes the whole jackpot.

End of the Game

The game ends, when you have used up the whole draw pile. The player with the most reward cards wins.
